André Carvalho

Composer and bassist André Carvalho presents at CCB the second volume of the Lost in Translation cycle. With this project, André Carvalho leaves listeners suspended in time. The music quickly changes between contemplative and turbulent moments, as if it were a mix between a Zen Koan and a painting by Francis Bacon.

Cécile McLorin Salvant

The world first heard the vocal mastery of Cécile McLorin Salvant when she won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in 2010. Over a decade, Cécile has evolved to transform herself from a darling of critics and fans to a multi-Grammy Award-winner and a fearless voice from today’s music scene. A concert not to be missed.

Sarah McKenzie, Jaques Morelenbaum, Romero Lubambo

Sarah McKenzie presents herself in 2022 with a very special trio that includes two Brazilian music stars: guitarist Romero Lubambo and cellist Jaques Morelenbaum. A regular presence alongside the most influential composers of MPB, Lubambo and Morelenbaum are creative and unconventional artists, crossing jazz, samba and classical tradition with absolute ease. Meanwhile, waiting for a new album, the trio released a single, Corcovado, which became a success on the web.

Big Bang Lx22 Festival

The ideal festival for those with curious and fearless spirits returns for its 12th edition. Young people navigate this labyrinth of musical adventures through a colorful and diverse program of multidisciplinary shows, interactive installations and music in many styles and formats. The Big Bang offers adventure and an exciting journey for children, youth and adults.

Big Bang is an international project that involves several international partners, with editions taking place in twelve European countries and Canada. Through this project, initiated by the Belgian company Zonzo Compagnie, CCB’s Fábrica das Artes has opened a space for the exchange of musical experiences for children, with Portuguese and international artists traveling the four corners of Europe.

Big Bang Ambassadors 2022

The Big Bang Ambassadors project is an initiative that has integrated all editions of the Big Bang Festival since 2015, both in Lisbon and throughout Europe. In this initiative, we invite children to join the communication teams of each institution and act as a reporting team for the festival.

This year, at the CCB, the Ambassadors will be young reporters-mediators, acting as a bridge between the public and the festival and communicating in their way its different dimensions in three moments: before, during, and after the festival.

The artistic and journalistic work of these young people will be coordinated by the mediator Daniella Figueiredo together with the CCB team.

Christian Sands Trio

It is with great pleasure that the CCB and the Incubadora d’Artes present Christian Sands.

A five-time Grammy nominee, Christian Sands is an emerging jazz force whose piano technique and artistry bring a fresh look to the entire language of jazz. At just 32 years old, the pianist and composer is arguably the leading pianist of his generation and a former prodigy who more than lived up to his initial promise, accumulating work as a bandleader that rivals established veterans twice his age. He released his debut album in 2002 at just 12 years old, toured the world as part of Christian McBride Trio, and was named one of the future rising jazz stars by Jet Magazine and Vanity Fair. With his latest album, Be Water, Christian Sands takes inspiration from the tranquility and power of water — echoing its fluidity and malleability.

Stacey Kent Quintet

Mágica is one of the most used adjectives to describe one of the most acclaimed voices of jazz today, Stacey Kent, American singer who in an impeccable Portuguese celebrates the music of some of her idols, interpreting themes by Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Sérgio Mendes, Roberto Menescal and Marcos Valle, among original compositions and some essential jazz themes.

Ute Lemper

Rendez Vous With Marlene is a show based on a three-hour telephone conversation between the legendary Marlene Dietrich and the international star Ute Lemper, in 1988, in Paris. After receiving the Molière Prize for her performance at Cabaret in Paris, Ute sent a postcard to Marlene, apologizing for all the media’s attention, which compared her to Marlene Dietrich. Lemper was at the beginning of his career, in theater and music, while Dietrich already had a long and fulfilled life of films, music, incredible collaborations, love stories and stardom. In this presentation, Ute Lemper shares the story of Marlene singing fabulous songs from all the chapters of her life, from the years of the Berlin cabaret to her incredible collaborations with Burt Bacharach. The songs include Where Have All the Flowers Gone, I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face, Blowin ’in the Wind and Just a Gigolo, among others.

Seven Dixie | Big Bang LX21

To end the festival, Seven Dixie recreate Dixieland for us in a concert with tunes by some of the great musicians, such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Johnny Dodds and Dixie Rebels.

Seven Dixie are a group consisting of a trumpet, trombone, clarinet, tuba, banjo, piano and drums, with a powerful and intense sound. Almost always playing at a fast pace, they will provide us with an evening filled with fun and joy.

Júlio Resende

The new album by the pianist and composer Júlio Resende, Júlio Resende Fado Jazz Ensemble, was released simultaneously in Portugal and Spain. As the title itself states, it is a surprising and original combination of two musical styles: fado and jazz.

It consists of original tracks composed by Júlio Resende, with arrangements of traditional songs such as Lira, including for the first time the lyrics of the only song performed by the fado singer Lina Rodrigues, in Profecia. This album also enjoys the participation of musicians such as Alexandre Frazão on drums, André Rosinha on double-bass and Bruno Chaveiro on Portuguese guitar.

On 2 October, Júlio Resende will be presenting this new work on stage in the CCB’s Main Auditorium.

«It is an arrow with a sucker tip, fired at a target known as the “bosom”. As to the record itself, it is a free album, in which the Portuguese guitar and piano intersect with one another, and, in conjunction with the double-bass and drums, they try to make the most of this new place that they are strolling around and discovering together. Whether it’s fado or whether it’s jazz, I don’t know. It could be both, but in reality I don’t know, because those who know normally don’t move forward. Those who already know are stuck in that knowledge and don’t move from there. I prefer not to know, just to move and go. Free. Like the sound.» – Júlio Resende
