Tempora mutantur could be the title of this programme, which begins with Symphony No. 1 by Joseph Haydn, one of the founders of the classical language. Written in 1759, the work consists of three movements and makes use of the basso continuo. Very different from this is his Symphony No. 64, which has four movements and was completed in 1775. The title was given to this piece by Haydn himself, being based on the epigram: Tempora mutantur, et nos mutamur in illis – “The times change, and we change with them”.
Mozart bequeathed to us an abundant production of music for soloists and orchestra and his creativity in this field was placed at the service of countless instruments. His Concerto No. 2 for Flute is an adaptation of an original Concerto for Oboe written for Giuseppe Ferlendis.
