The Orquestra do Norte takes to the stage of Centro Cultural de Belém’s Small Auditorium for a concert with commentary celebrating the splendour of Spanish music. Under the direction of its Chief Conductor, Fernando Marinho, the programme features landmark works that define Spain’s musical identity, offering an engaging artistic experience.
The musical journey begins with the overture to Los Esclavos Felices by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, a work that reveals the elegance and brilliance of one of Spanish music’s most remarkable talents. The highlight of the concert is Joaquín Rodrigo’s iconic Concierto de Aranjuez, in which the solo guitar takes centre stage, alternating moments of lyricism and virtuosity with the orchestra. The journey continues with the rhythmic energy of Manuel de Falla, through a suite from the ballet El Sombrero de Tres Picos, culminating in the celebrated and hypnotic Danza ritual del fuego from El Amor Brujo.
Concert with commentary by Susana Henriques.
