The room has a general bibliographical collection that focuses on Literature and the Visual Arts, making it the first step towards the creation of a future Library/Documentation Centre that will complete the range of services offered to the public by the Centro Cultural de Belém.
The Room has 40 seats for reading purposes, four computers in the Internet Area made available for the use of readers, and an area set aside for the reading of newspapers, to which admission is free of charge.
A home lending service was created in December 2007, which has proved to be a great success. Designed to serve primarily as a space for study, reading and reflection, the Reading Room is also used to host events such as conferences, commemorations of the World Poetry Day, tributes to writers, lecture cycles or other events related to literature, writers and the reading public.
