“Strange Harvest” is a lecture that explores the idea of architecture as an expanded field. It explores research, criticism and curation as fundamental acts for architectural proposition and vice versa, how built form can act as a form of criticism and research. The talk will draw on Jacob’s design practice at FAT and now as principal of Sam Jacob Studio, including projects such as the Heerlijkheid Hoogvliet, a park and cultural centre in Rotterdam, A Clockwork Jerusalem curated for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale as well as more recent projects including A Very Small Part of Architecture, a resurrection of Adolf Loos’ never built mausoleum and well as his writing as critic for Art Review and Dezeen. Jacob’s talk will examine the relationship between architecture and wider culture and how connecting the two can produce a culturally engaged and provocative form of architectural practice.
