Since its debut, the Brahms’ Violin Concerto has always divided opinions. Some say it is a Concerto «against» the Violin. This composition is also referred to as a Violin Concerto «against» the Orchestra. However, everyone regrets that Brahms has not composed more works in this format. This is the dilemma that violinist Alina Pogostkina and conductor Pedro Neves face at the beginning of yet another Metropolitana’s Season. This concert starts with Beethoven’s first and last forays into the world of symphonies. The first does not yet have a romantic character, but it is still surprising. The last one is performed through a speculative exercise based on sketches of a supposed Symphony no. 10.
