With Dirk Bogarde, Romolo Valli, Mark Burns, Nora Ricci
Adapting Thomas Mann’s novel with the same name, Visconti filmed the journey to Venice of Gustave Aschenbach (Dirk Bogarde), a failed German composer who is searching in this city for a shelter from the personal and artistic crisis that he is passing through. It is then that he falls deeply in love with Tadzio (Björn Andresen), an adolescent of impeccable beauty. This disconcerting attraction, just like the cholera epidemic that is threatening the city, captivates and consumes the composer, tragically compromising all of his ideals.
