Without any ready-made audience for her own personal and contemporary style, Mísia – a pioneering and free spirit – found herself forced to blaze her own trail. She therefore began what, according to Manuel Halpern, came to be known as the New Fado: «It is always difficult to identify the exact timelines. But, if we were forced to establish a date for the beginning of the new fado, it would be March 1991, when Mísia released her first album. Everything that came before was just a kind of pre-history.»
«The most beautiful songs weren’t chosen because they had the best music and words. They are beautiful because they were important and pleasant for my development, and I hope that they also aroused similar emotions in those who had the chance to listen to them. Each of my songs has a special story, in that it crossed paths with my destiny, and, in this way, it became a part of me.
I want to share this list of extremely beautiful songs with you, hoping that they will touch you in your hearts, just as they do in mine.
There will be some surprise guests in this ritual expression of my gratitude and my celebration of Music and Poetry. There will also be some songs that have never been heard before, since they were never recorded.» – Mísia
