Formed by voices from the legendary Mississippi Mass Choir and directed by Jerry Calvin Smith, the Black Heritage Choir presents The Soul of Gospel in Portugal, a performance that traces the history of gospel — from its roots in the plantations of the southern United States to its more urban and contemporary expressions. The result is an intense and deeply human concert, where tradition and modernity walk side by side.
