a mind in the heart (TRPTK, 2026) marks Joana Gama’s return to solo recording releases following Arcueil (2019). This time, the impetus comes from an invitation by Serbian composer Ivan Vukosavljević. For Joana Gama, it was not difficult to be persuaded, since the piece bears affinities with the works of composers she has performed in recent years, from Erik Satie to John Cage, also including Federico Mompou and Hans Otte.
Regarding the context of the composition, the composer states: “These eight pieces gradually became companions throughout a chapter of my life marked by many profound transformations. A chapter that culminated in the most significant event of my life so far — the birth of my daughter.” Drawing inspiration from the phrase that gives the cycle its title — with some of the movements also referring to a sermon by Meister Eckhart — Vukosavljević was likewise inspired by Orthodox Christian ethos and the musical heritage surrounding it.
Pre-concert talk by Joana Gama and Ivan Vukosavljević at 7:30 pm.
