Installation
C’est Pas Là, C’est Par Là, by Compagnie Galmae, created by Juhyung Lee, is an interactive work in which audiences are invited to grasp a rope wound around a stone and gradually untangle it by following an elusive pattern. As the threads require participants to move over and under one another, bodies intersect, encounters emerge, and directions are constantly called into question.
The installation offers a sensory journey that challenges visitors’ spatial perception and sense of orientation. Through sound, image, and interactive devices, each participant is encouraged to explore, reinterpret, and rediscover the space.
The Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to collect, store and use recordings of image, sound and voice, for the purposes of dissemination and for preserving the memory of its cultural and artistic activities, as well as its spaces. Biography
Galmae
Galmae is a performance company founded in 2017 by South Korean artist Juhyung Lee and based in Marseille. Its work explores the temporary relationships that emerge between artists, works, and audiences, approaching the performing arts as a space in which a «we» can take shape among strangers. Its creations, mostly without text and presented in public spaces, invite audiences to participate and move freely. Its works include C’est Pas Là, C’est Par Là (2017) and Dans La Mesure Du Possible (2022). By 2025, the company had presented its work in more than 70 cities across 14 countries.
Juhyung Lee
Born in South Korea in 1991, Juhyung Lee lives in Marseille and is the founder of the Galmae company. He trained at FAI-AR, the French school dedicated to artistic creation in public space, and in 2018 was named Auteur de l’espace by SACD. His practice investigates the political dimension of the performing arts and the ways in which a group forms, holds together, and dissolves. Rather than conveying a fixed message, Lee creates participatory situations in which strangers share the same time and space, leaving audiences to construct their own meanings and interpretations.
