We believe the museum is also a place for play, discovery, and free learning. Born out of a desire to offer new ways of being in and thinking about the museum, the Play Room is a space where games, creativity, experimentation, and curiosity come together. Open for free use, it is accompanied by a mediator from the Education and Mediation team, available to support, suggest pathways, and accompany discoveries.
The project “Learn to Play and Play to Learn,” in the Play Room on floor -1, consists of various mediating objects inspired by works in the MAC/CCB collections. These objects give rise to games and proposals suitable for different age groups, encouraging a more interactive and accessible visit. A dedicated Play Room Brochure has also been developed, with texts and suggested activities for younger visitors, inviting them on a playful journey through the museum.
Play and learning are fundamental principles of the MAC/CCB’s Education and Mediation Department, which seeks through this programme to foster new forms of mediation and engagement with art and space.
ATELIER — A SPACE TO IMAGINE, PLAY, AND CREATE
Inspired by the exhibition Avenida 211. An Artists’ Space in Lisbon, the ATELIER is a place for experimentation where play opens the door to learning, thinking, and inventing.
We invite children to explore the museum differently, with their hands, their bodies, and their imagination fully awake. Here, every challenge is a journey: every gesture can become a work; every idea, a point of departure. During the course of the exhibition, artists will be invited to join the play, sharing their ways of seeing, making, and dreaming.
The Play Room will also continue to feature a space dedicated to the museum’s collections, where there is always something new to discover and reinvent. Join in as a family—because play is also a way of learning!
