Krump is a performative practice that functions as a ritual of liberation, acceptance, and resistance, in which the body becomes a space for expression and transformation.
Originating within Black and Latino communities in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, krump emerged as a response to structural violence, gang conflict, and police repression, particularly in the area of Compton. Rooted in a sociopolitical context marked by racism and economic inequality, this dance style developed into a raw, intense, and deeply expressive form of movement.
More than a dance, krump is a collective space where energy, emotion, and community converge, inviting audiences into a visceral, participatory experience with a powerful ritual dimension.
The Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to collect, store and use recordings of image, sound and voice, for the purposes of dissemination and for preserving the memory of its cultural and artistic activities, as well as its spaces.
