Theatre Green Book
The Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) has taken another step towards a more sustainable future by joining the ETC Theatre Green Book (TGB) project, an innovative initiative aimed at promoting more responsible practices in the daily operation of European theatres. This commitment reflects not only the CCB’s environmental responsibility but also its determination to take part in the transformation of the cultural community.
The Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to collect, store and use recordings of image, sound and voice, for the purposes of dissemination and for preserving the memory of its cultural and artistic activities, as well as its spaces. The ETC Theatre Green Book began as a collective movement among theatre producers in the United Kingdom, but it quickly crossed borders and has now evolved into a global network. The project currently includes nine theatres from seven countries, functioning as a true «network of networks». This movement inspires local and international theatre communities to adapt its guiding principles while respecting the specificities of their cultural practices, yet never losing sight of the greater goaL – a more sustainable planet.
The essence of the Green Book lies in the fact that it is the first self-certification tool for sustainability in theatre. This tool enables organisations, regardless of their size, to monitor and accelerate their progress towards carbon neutrality. More than a technical guide, the Green Book is a call to action. It encourages theatres and cultural organisations to reimagine their artistic productions, daily operations, and physical infrastructures, always focusing on significantly reducing carbon emissions.
With the support of the Green Book, the CCB is committed to transforming its artistic productions, operations, and infrastructure in order to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030. This ambition goes beyond a simple environmental commitment: it is a declaration of hope for the future, a collective effort to protect the planet and to inspire other cultural institutions to follow the same path.
The CCB believes in the power of art as a tool for social transformation, and its commitment to the ETC Theatre Green Book is a clear reflection of this vision. Sustainability is not merely a choice; it is a shared responsibility.
