After the success of previous celebrations (The Rite of Spring, Eroica Symphony, Mahler’s Ninth, and Bruckner’s Ninth), the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra once again joins forces with the Portuguese Youth Orchestra to celebrate Berlioz’s extraordinary Symphonie Fantastique. A self-portrait of its creator, it tells the story of an artist’s passion for a woman: his obsession, dreams, ecstasy, and despair.
To open the concert, and inspired by the epic forces of the Symphonie Fantastique, we will hear the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the CCB from the young composer Francisco Fontes, from Braga. A concert brimming with drive and energy, under the direction of Pedro Carneiro.
Pre-concert talk by Pedro Carneiro and Cesário Costa.
