This program covers the three Carnivals written throughout the decade 1830-40, in which his entire production is dedicated to the piano. From Papillons op. 2 – 1830 – which musically illustrate a masquerade ball taken from a literary work, to the Carnival Scenes from Vienna – 1839 – conceived after an unhappy stay in the Austrian capital. In between, Carnival op. 9 – 1835 – gallery of portraits in which Chopin or Paganini appear opposite Pierrot and Harlequin, without forgetting the two personalities of Schumann himself, Florestan and Eusebius.
