After several collaborations in the late 1940s, Miles Davis and composer Gil Evans entered the studio in 1957 to record Miles Ahead, an album that would become one of the most important and influential works in orchestral jazz, leading them to create Porgy and Bess (1958) and Sketches of Spain (1959).
These albums were pioneering in their new sonorities, timbres, and orchestral textures, with an expanded ensemble beyond the traditional big band, and above all in the way Miles opened the door to a new musical language and expression.
Inspired by this rich sonic universe, the Hot Clube Orchestra invites American trumpeter Ralph Alessi, one of the most relevant trumpeters on today’s jazz scene, for a concert revisiting some of the original scores while also premiering new works for the same instrumentation, establishing a fertile dialogue and keeping Miles Davis’s legacy alive through new music. — Pedro Moreira
