Mozart’s Requiem stands as a monument to the human condition. Its origins contain all the ingredients of a best-selling novel: the artist’s absolute devotion to his craft, secret identities, conspiracy, death — all embodied in the very musical form most closely tied to those themes. Yet beyond its mysterious history, it is sublime music that deeply moves the listener. In all its beauty, it steps firmly across the thresholds of human understanding, becoming a meditation on existence, hope, transcendence, mystery, and the meaning of life itself.
