Concentus Musicus Wien has a long-standing relationship with J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. The ensemble has performed these masterpieces many times, but each performance is a new discovery.
All six Brandenburg Concertos represent a maximum challenge for the musicians, but certainly also for the audience. Concentus Musicus Wien dedicates this unique experience to its founder, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, who passed away 10 years ago. His influence on Concentus Musicus Wien cannot be denied, especially with these works, even though the ensemble — particularly in honour of his legacy — is trying to rediscover the works and bring them back to the stage for the ears of today’s audiences.
Pre-concert talk by Cesário Costa.
