Installation

Promontorio designed an ephemeral construction for A Square in Summer project, transforming the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) with two coordinated open-air spaces. Each was integrated within the overall modular scheme of the original building, with pieces of cork organised in two lines of columns. The parallelism of the four rows of columns at the moment where the two spaces meet generates a labyrinth of dimensions that are difficult to define, creating ambiguity in the experience of the space as a whole. In the words of the architects: “The intention of the spatial intervention was to create an emotional and purely architectural experience.” The spaces are capable of being adapted to a wide range of uses, from night parties to the summer cinema, without mentioning the ludic dimension inherent in all architecture.
