The 23rd edition of the Festa do Jazz takes place from 19 to 21 December at the Centro Cultural de Belém, bringing together artists, agents, and jazz schools from across the country in a programme dedicated to the expansion of jazz sonorities and their most liberating oral expressions.
Of Fragility and Impermanence, by composer and double bassist André Carvalho, was born out of a need to contemplate what is most human and transitory in us. Fragility, far from being a weakness, reflects the complexity of existence, revealing vulnerability, experience, and connection with others. The project explores sonic worlds that challenge conventions: fragile and subtle sounds that inhabit the thresholds of perception, inviting contemplation and reflection on silence and sound, slowness and urgency. Recorded in April 2025 at Centro Musibéria, with the support of Fundação GDA, Antena 2, and Centro Musibéria, it brings together José Soares, Raquel Reis, Samuel Gapp, André Carvalho, and João Hasselberg.
Percussionist and composer Sofia Borges presents a new series of modules that can be layered or juxtaposed, exploring different techniques of sonic representation and notation—from graphic scores and traditional notation to verbal instruction scores.
Through a multiplicity of approaches aimed at expanding the possibilities of interpretation and musical realization, this collaborative performance brings together performers from diverse musical traditions: Clara Saleiro (flutes), João Gato (saxophones), Maria do Mar (violins), Abdul Moimême (guitar), and Michael Formanek (double bass).
The Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to collect, store and use recordings of image, sound and voice, for the purposes of dissemination and for preserving the memory of its cultural and artistic activities, as well as its spaces.
