The Portuguese Symphonic Band brings to the stage the enchanting story of Alex, a boy searching for the perfect birthday present for his father. Alex is transported into a magical world where he discovers an old theatre inhabited by living instruments — but no musicians. When he climbs onto the conductor’s podium, he brings forth wondrous sounds that move him deeply, until he faints. Upon waking, he finds an old flute in the pocket of his pyjamas: the perfect gift.
Alex and the Phantom Band, by David Maslanka, is a musical adventure that celebrates imagination and the magic of music. In this concert, the audience will also have the chance to discover the full virtuosity of the different sections of the wind orchestra through Variations on a Theme of Paganini by James Barnes.
