Cordel (twine) is the most recent group of singer-songwriters Edu Mundo and João Pires.
Cordel is born of the celebration of the Portuguese culture. A deep dip in the roots of Portuguese music and its Portuguese-speaking ramifications.
The Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation reserves the right to collect, store and use recordings of image, sound and voice, for the purposes of dissemination and for preserving the memory of its cultural and artistic activities, as well as its spaces. Without labels or packages the group explores traditional melodies such as chula, vira, fado song and even the popular march with the rhythms of the African and Brazilian latitudes. In the lyrics, they recover the popular poetry of twine literature. At a time when we import musical influences, Cordel, in an almost revolutionary attitude, or at least nonconformist, contradicts tendencies to give us the essentials of our roots, reinventing them.
The duo of songwriters has already been drawing a path in composition for other artists such as Ana Moura, Aline Frazão, Sara Tavares, António Zambujo, Omara Portuondo, Coladera, Fogo Fogo, among others.
The debut album of Cordel will be released in May 2019 by the publisher Valentim de Carvalho and the project prepares its first presentation on national stages.
