Inner Journey

Inner Journey is the 12th album of original compositions by acclaimed Portuguese saxophonist and composer Desidério Lázaro, conceived as a lyrical tribute to Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, one of the most influential works of 20th-century literature.
Far from being merely an abstract source of inspiration, the music serves as a veritable soundtrack to the book, seeking to translate the protagonist’s spiritual odyssey and existential journey into sound. Each composition follows one of the crucial moments in Siddhartha’s story in chronological order, capturing the essence of his discoveries, dilemmas, pleasures, hardships and transformations throughout his journey of self-discovery, until he finds inner peace and enlightenment through the “middle way”.
On stage, Desidério Lázaro (saxophones and bass clarinet) leads a cohesive and expressive trio alongside André Rosinha (double bass) and João Sousa (drums). Together, they establish a strong chamber music interplay, striking a perfect balance between melodic introspection and moments of great rhythmic intensity.
To enhance the immersive experience, the concert will be accompanied by a simultaneous projection of the text, allowing audiences to follow the narrative in real time. The performance thus becomes an invitation to attentive, meditative listening, bringing together literature and jazz improvisation.
