BITOI

Despite its compact line-up, BITOI produces a rich and remarkably precise sound. The female trio combines raw power with delicate textures, layering close harmonies and dissonances over deep, pulsating bass lines. Their lyrics, drawn from phonetically transcribed birdsong, are transformed into chants that sound both ancient and contemporary.
Formed in Malmö for the 2023 Intonal Festival, BITOI has since performed at festivals including Roskilde, Le Guess Who?, Rewire, WOMAD, Way Out West, Clandestino, Babel XP and Stanser Musiktage, as well as touring Japan with Aragaki Mutsumi. Alongside its live work, the group has created commissioned works for theatre, dance, sculpture and film. In 2025, it was named Breakthrough of the Year at the DMA, and in 2026 received a Swedish Grammy nomination. Its debut EP, – O –, was released in 2023, followed by its first album, Sirikulu, in 2025 on the Supertraditional Records label.
BITOI embodies Cassius’s maximalism — drawing the richest possible sound from the most elemental tools: bass, voices, polyrhythms and prepared textures — pushing minimalism to its limits.
