Florence and Julien, lovers, decide to kill Simon, Florence’s husband. A detail compromises Julien’s escape and, upon returning to the crime scene, he becomes trapped in an elevator. The story unfolds in an atmosphere of intense dramatic tension, evoking the world of American film noir, with a soundtrack by Miles Davis. This film marks Louis Malle’s debut in feature-length fiction.
