Medieval Music
The new project by the ensemble Na Rota do Peregrino, under the direction of Daniela Tomaz (Ensemble Med) and the musical direction of medievalist Maurício Molina (City University of New York), is titled The Songs of King Dinis, the Troubadour King and is inspired by the 700th anniversary of his death in 2025.
The selected repertoire brings to life the compositions of King Dom Dinis (1261–1325) through a careful, historically informed reconstruction of his seven cantigas de amor (based on the Sharrer fragments). This reconstruction incorporates historical pronunciation and instrumental accompaniment.
In connection with this concert, the lecture King Dinis and Music by Prof. Manuel Pedro Ferreira will take place in the Lopes-Graça Room on the same day, 27 February, at 6:30 pm.
