To speak of the history of Portuguese pop/rock is to speak of Jafumega. The band members’ long and diverse musical experience, along with their strong technical proficiency, allowed the group to expand their talent across very different genres.
During the boom of Portuguese rock, Jafumega took the country by storm: “A ponte é uma passagem… prá outra margem” was one of the most heard and repeated verses of the early decade.
Forty-five years after their founding, they return to the big stages to celebrate with the audience that followed them in the 1980s, as well as with those who discovered the band in recent decades and never had the chance to see them live.
From the original line-up, Luís Portugal (vocals), José Nogueira (saxophones and keyboard), and Mário Barreiros (guitars) remain, following the departure of Álvaro Marques and Pedro Barreiros for personal reasons, and the passing of Eugénio Barreiros, composer of some of the group’s most emblematic songs. Today, on stage, this trio is joined by three guest musicians.
