Homo Urbanus. A Citymatographic Odyssey, a project by artists and filmmakers Ila Bêka & Louise Lemoine, explores the city as an ecosystem, observing the peculiarities of the species they call Homo Urbanus within the international habitat it both constructs and is shaped by.
Currently on view at MAC/CCB, the most extensive presentation of this ambitious project to date features over 13 hours of films from 13 different cities. Framed through a selection of themes and issues related to daily life in public space, these films allow us to understand each urban context as a unique, local experimental laboratory responding to the global challenge of how we can live together.
Bêka & Lemoine have now taken to the streets of Lisbon in search of the Homo Urbanus Lisboetus. The Portuguese capital is the subject of the 14th iteration of the project, in a film produced in partnership with RTP, set to premiere on 5 March at the CCB’s Small Auditorium. Following the premiere, it will become part of the MAC/CCB exhibition, on view until 6 April.
◾ Introduction by Nuno Vassallo e Silva, President of the Administration Council of FCCB and Daniel Gorjão, Performing Arts Curator at RTP2
Followed by a conversation with Ila Bêka, Justin Jaeckle (exhibition curator), and Mariana Pestana (Chief Curator — Architecture Centre). The discussion will be held in English.
Free entry, subject to ticket collection at the CCB Box Office (available 2 hours before the event).
