Jenůfa by Leoš Janácek narrates Jenufa’s unrequited love for Števa, with whom she is pregnant, while Laca, Števa’s half-brother, loves her. Family conflicts in a village lead to tragedy, and the opera ends with the wedding of Jenůfa and Laca. Composed over a decade and premiered in 1916, the work reflects traditional Moravian music and established Janáček in Czech opera.
