Does Spring Hide Its Joy is an immersive piece by composer Kali Malone that features musicians Stephen O’Malley and Lucy Railton and visual effects artist Nika Milano. The music is a study of the possibilities of deep listening and non-linear durational composition. The subtle minimalism of the cello, electric guitar, sine waves, and vast color fields reveals a surprising depth of focus and opens contemplative spaces in the listener’s attention.
Kali Malone composes with a clarity of vision. Her music is patient and focused, built on a foundation of harmonic cycles that extract latent emotional resonances, and the slight differences between the tones of each instrument generate immersive movements.
Malone’s music for pipe organ, choir, chamber music ensembles, and electroacoustic formats has been widely acclaimed by international critics. He has performed extensively, presenting his music at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Venice Biennale, Radio France, Rockefeller Chapel, Grace Cathedral, The Southbank Center, Bozar, Schauspielhaus, Berghain, Unsound Festival, Berlin Atonal and Kanal Pompidou. She has performed her music in museums, contemporary art spaces, concert halls, churches, and festivals throughout Europe, North America, Japan, and Australia.
Born in Colorado, Malone moved to Stockholm in 2012. She currently lives between Stockholm and Paris.
