Composed for soloists, a choir, orchestra and organ, and based on some of the most important biblical texts, this work is constructed in a hybrid style, somewhere between the sacred and the profane, between contemporaneity and the musical references from the past. It is a highly structured musical proposal that moves from darkness to the splendour of the word of God, from ignorance to the enlightened spirit. It was premi\u00e8red in June 1840, and conducted by the composer himself, as part of the Gutenberg Festival, held in Leipzig.
