{"id":47922,"date":"2021-05-11T11:14:39","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T10:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ccb.pt\/evento\/maria-de-buenos-aires\/"},"modified":"2021-07-02T10:43:51","modified_gmt":"2021-07-02T09:43:51","slug":"maria-de-buenos-aires","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.ccb.pt\/en\/evento\/maria-de-buenos-aires\/","title":{"rendered":"Mar\u00eda de Buenos Aires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Mar\u00eda de Buenos Aires<\/em>\u00a0is a theatrical and musical show \u2014 the first in the genre of tango opera by Astor Piazzolla \u2014 with a libretto by Horacio Ferrer, a Uruguayan-Argentinian poet, who also wrote poems for several of Piazzola\u2019s tangos.<\/p>\n<p>The complex plot, developed over the course of 17 musical numbers, has surrealistic overtones, alternating between sections that are sung, recited or exclusively instrumental, in which we accompany Mar\u00eda\u2019s life, death, resurrection and motherhood. The protagonist wanders amidst typical characters and everyday scenes in the Argentinian capital, where she encounters a poet and narrator who is also a goblin-like duende, with several puppets under his control, and a circus of psychoanalysts.<\/p>\n<p>Mar\u00eda and her shadow are the representation of Buenos Aires, being associated with the tango, the city\u2019s streets and its night life. But the character is open to multiple interpretations and frequently appears to be associated with the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, as much as she is with the female condition.<\/p>\n<p>The work was premi\u00e8red at the Sala Planeta in Buenos Aires, on 8 May 1968.
