From Schubert&#8217;s melancholy to Schumann&#8217;s distinctive approach to melodrama and the harmonic daring of Liszt and Strauss, a world of intense dramatic power emerges, where words and music come together to explore the realms of dreams, unease and the supernatural. Inspired by narratives steeped in mystery and terror, these works anticipate sounds and atmospheres that would leave a profound mark on the history of music.
