King Dinis not only founded the University of Lisbon but also established, in 1323, the Chair of Music, whose academic nature will be discussed. The king\u2019s importance to musical activity is, however, mainly connected to his role within the Galician-Portuguese troubadour lyric tradition, as both patron and creator.<\/p>\n
Among his many cantigas<\/em>, seven have come down to us with musical notation in the so-called Sharrer Parchment<\/em>, discovered in 1990 in the Torre do Tombo.
