SUMMARY:Dom Garcia - by Joly Braga Santos
DESCRIPTION:In 1971\, António Barge commissioned the scenic cantata Dom Garcia to inaugurate the Vilar de Mouros Festival. Composed by Joly Braga Santos and with a poem by Natália Correia and David Mourão Ferreira\, the work portrays the dispute between the sons of King Dom Fernando of Castile over the division of the kingdom\, culminating in the captivity and death of Dom Garcia. It memorably debuted with the Banda da Guarda Nacional Republicana\, directed by Silva Dionísio.
