SUMMARY:Folia Nova – New Early Music on Portuguese Poetry of the 15th and 16th Centuries
DESCRIPTION:The term «folia» appears in Portuguese sources from the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century\, being referred to in the Auto da Sibila Cassandra by Gil Vicente as a dance performed by shepherds. For a century\, this musical structure conquered the entire Peninsula and established itself as a popular model in Italy\, France\, and England in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 2023\, Filipe Faria and Sérgio Peixoto visit the history of this structure to compose new villancicos about Portuguese poetry from the 16th century.
