SUMMARY:Ensemble New Babylon + Vertixe Sonora Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:This concert will be a tribute to the work and thought of José Saramago\, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth\, through the performative fusion of the Vertixe Sonora Ensemble\, composed of leading soloist contemporary musicians from Galicia and Portugal\, and the Ensemble New Babylon\, from Bremen in Germany. \n  \nFourteen musicians\, seven from the Ensemble New Babylon and the other seven from the Vertixe Sonora Ensemble\, directed by the Portuguese conductor Pedro Figueiredo\, will present the world première of three pieces by Alexander F. Müller (Germany)\, Ramón Souto (Spain) and Ângela da Ponte (Portugal). \n  \n«If I ever have eyes again\, I will truly look into the eyes of others\, as if I were seeing their soul.» \nJosé Saramago\, Blindness \n  \nPerfectly anticipating the current COVID-19 pandemic in his novel Blindness\, José Saramago produces a disturbing parable of our modern-day society: the sudden and inexplicable appearance of a pandemic of blindness causes widespread panic and rapidly destroys the social order while the illness transcends a meaning that reaches far beyond the physical reality. \n  \n
