DESCRIPTION:First performed in 1870\, The Valkyrie continues to be the most popular opera from The Ring of the Nibelung. Centred on the story of the Volsungs\, it tells us about the incestuous passion of the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde and its terrible consequences. \nThe musical direction will be in the hands of Graeme Jenkins\, who has already presented us with several powerful interpretations of Wagner’s work. The semi-staged production by Opera North is part of a profoundly democratic process for the enjoyment of opera. Peter Mumford proposes a vision that gives special emphasis to the psychological intimacy of the characters through a singular appeal to the language of the cinema. The cast includes some of today’s most striking Wagnerian voices\, performing alongside a number of promising young singers. \n
