SUMMARY:Rafael Toral: Space Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Constantly evolving since 2014\, Space Quartet has already had several line-ups\, with this latest one being the most complete ever. Accompanied by the clear and inventive sound of Hugo Antunes (double-bass)\, the discreet precision of Nuno Morão (drums)\, and the multilinguistic intelligence of Nuno Torres (qualities that are in fact shared by all three)\, Rafael Toral’s unique style and phrasing finds its ideal backing. Melodious\, but without any notes\, familiar but strange\, rhythmic but without a beat\, meticulous but radically free\, their music has been described as «a kind of electronic music that has much more gut emotion than that of their more cerebral peers.» The quartet’s musical dynamic is permanently self-renewing and produces highly diversified m0ments\, ranging from a Japanese calligraphy to fire-jazz\, the result of the way in which its members make their own decisions within the «space» of the quartet.
