SUMMARY:Portuguese Chamber Orchestra / Serenade
DESCRIPTION:Based on two extraordinary and quite contrasting works — Tchaikovsky’s Serenade and Biber’s Battalia — the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra delves into the intimate universe of Charles Ives and John Cage\, in a concert staged by Teresa Simas. Serenade. Serene. An unanswered question: the mysterious work of Charles Ives (1874-1954)\, a cosmic tapestry in the form of sound. Soothing. A series of harmonies\, music reconstructed by John Cage (1912-1992) from the hymns of composers contemporary to the 1776 American Revolution. Clear. Clean. Heinrich Biber describes several paintings in surrealistic tones\, in an explosion of colour\, impetus\, creativity and imagination. Pacifying\, tranquilising. With his delightful imagination\, Tchaikovsky closes the pages of his serenade with reminiscences of its beginning — we are reminded of the mysterious work by Charles Ives: a reply to the incessant noise created by humankind\, silence? \nPedro Carneiro
