DESCRIPTION:Amália: “Deranged\, hairy arms\, hot-headed\, wild-eyed\, that was what they said about the mythical Severa. I was nothing like that!” And she never was. “Do I express the National Soul? Me? I just express my own Soul.” \nShe went from the narrow streets of Lisbon to the world’s great stages to seduce the entire planet. Dressed in black\, and with her eyes closed\, so that people could hear that Voice. Pure emotion. Traditional fados\, an Iberian singer\, mezzo-soprano and a dramatic actress. Great poets. She herself\, Homem de Mello\, Mourão Ferreira\, Alegre\, O’Neill\, Camões. And the children she left us! Some of them will be here today to prolong “the universality of her cry and her smile”. The CCB invited me to organise the lighting and the shadows for this show. How could I possibly say no? – João Botelho
