MUJERES Y CRIADOS DE LOPE DE VEGA
This play by Lope de Vega is an urban comedy written between 1613 and 1614. Not only does it mark the period when the Spanish poet and playwright was at the height of his creative powers, but also the phase in which his success was at its greatest peak. These were the years when Félix Lope de Vega wrote genuine comic masterpieces. We can now add to all of these the play Mujeres y Criados, whose text was recently discovered at the National Library of Madrid. In this play, Lope de Vega offers us a delightful game of comedy, errors and trickery, in which women play a predominant role and the more traditional perceptions of honour are inverted.
