New Year’s Concert

Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa

It’s a long time since Viennese waltzes, marches and polkas dictated the fashion at balls that went on until the early hours, serving as a pretext for displaying one’s jewels and sophisticated clothes and fuelling rituals of seduction of greater or lesser innocence, depending on the opportunity that presented itself. In the last few decades, there has been a noticeable revival of this repertoire in a very particular context. The tradition of the New Year’s Concerts held in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna has become a global event, giving rise to a surprising cross-cultural phenomenon in which a unique musical genre can awaken a sense of hope, putting smiles on people’s faces and creating a feeling of well-being and a good mood among music lovers all over the world. The musicians of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and the conductor Sebastian Perłowski invite you to participate in a concert that is as big as the world itself, with spirited and joyful music to welcome in 2016.
