Cais Sodré Funk Connection
Born in the heart of the bohemian neighbourhood that gives them their name, Cais Sodré Funk Connection are a band of Portuguese music veterans and genuine ambassadors of funk & soul. The soul power is provided by Francisco Rebelo on bass, João Gomes on keyboards, David Pessoa on guitar, Rui Alves on drums and the powerful brass section of João Cabrita, José Raminhos and Miguel Marques. Led by the unmistakable one-man show Silk (Fernando Nobre), they are accompanied by the sensual and seductive voice of Tamin (Telma Santos). Specially dressed for the occasion, they come onto the stage and set audiences alight, whether playing the first parts of concerts with Sharon Jones or Lionel Ritchie, or in partnership with leading artists such as Rickie Calloway, Paulo de Carvalho and more recently Eduardo Nascimento and António Calvário, at the Portuguese Song Festival in 2019. In 2012, they released You Are Somebody, their debut album that led to their being played on the radio and brought them to people’s attention as a solid national project. With their second album, Soul, Sweat & Cut The Crap, released in 2016, with 13 original tracks, they conquered an ever more loyal audience and established themselves as an incredible live band. With the video Offbeat, a single that was taken from this album, directed by Richard F. Coelho, they gained international recognition, winning the award for the best music video at the Cannes Short Film Festival. In May 2019, they released their third album, Back On Track, returning to funk & soul with another 12 original tracks, full of groove and new moves. After 10 years of playing concerts at the most prestigious venues around the country, they bring with them new musical themes and songs to celebrate adult life, without losing any of the infectious energy that characterises their music.
