Branford Marsalis is one of the most highly admired instrumentalists of our time. He began his career playing with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and, in the early 1980s, with the quintet headed by his brother Wynton. His talent was immediately recognised. Branford has played and recorded with such jazz giants as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins. He has already been awarded the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as winning three Grammys and a Tony Award for his work as a composer and saxophonist. In his classical repertoire, he has played music by Copland, Debussy, Mahler and Villa-Lobos and has performed with the Symphony Orchestras of Chicago, Detroit and Dusseldorf and with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. In Lisbon, he will be performing with his quartet.
