It was on 21 March, 1993, that the Centro Cultural de Belém first opened its doors to the public. Twenty-five years later, we are celebrating this date with a series of activities to which we offer free admission. All day long, people will have the chance to see exactly what goes on behind the scenes at the CCB. On this same day, the exhibition CCB 25 Years will be opened to the public, taking visitors on a tour through the history of this institution, while schoolchildren will be given the opportunity to participate in workshops leading to the performance of a mini-concert at the end.
07:00 to 20:00
The RTP Group (the official state broadcasting company) was the CCB’s first partner, twenty-five years ago. This successful partnership will be celebrated on this day, with the presence here of the three radio stations, Antena 1, Antena 2 and Antena 3, which will all broadcast their programmes live from the CCB.
The television station RTP 2 will broadcast its programme Sociedade Civil live from the Olive-Tree Garden, and, at 20:00, RTP1 will broadcast its news programme Telejornal live from the CCB Plaza.
10:00 to 20:00
All day long, next to the Main Reception, there will be a book fair, where you will be able to find various editions that have been published by the CCB, together with other important literary works. This book fair will be held in partnership with the Bertrand chain of bookstores.
In the Reading Room, you will also have the chance to consult the RTP Archives about the CCB online.

Paris Haussmann, Model City – Garagem Sul | Architecture Exhibitions
Curators: LAN (Benoît Jallon & Umberto Napolitano) and FBC (Franck Boutté)
This exhibition analyses and reveals the potential of the contemporary Parisian urban model in relation to the developments and challenges of tomorrow’s cities. More than a hundred drawings, plans, archives, architects’ models and photographs by Cyrille Weiner will give visitors a chance to rediscover this legacy at a number of different levels.
NucleAR Lightning Project
After 140 students from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) have taken over the Garagem Sul for a week to work on projects for a possible extension of the Centro Cultural de Belém complex, the best proposals will now be presented in the foyer of the Luís de Freitas Branco Room. The Lightning Project is an initiative of NucleAR (Architecture Students’ Group) and students from the IST’s Integrated Master’s Degree Course in Architecture.

Opening of the CCB 25 Years exhibition, which invites visitors to both discover and recall the very first moments in the formation and development of this cultural institution in Portugal in the early 1990s. It begins with the building’s creation as a place that would be used for the representation of the Portuguese State, followed immediately afterwards by the demonstration of its clear vocation for promoting both the visual and the performing arts
