My armilage – Organic diaries of merm@ids
And what if our life were written upon our body? And what if it is?
In mermaids, the “armilage”, a kind of fin that grows on their arms, has marked upon it all the important events of their lives: their parents, their brothers and sisters, their stepfathers and stepmothers, their love affairs, their storms, their fits of temper, deaths, re-encounters.
And, when mermaids die, their armilage separates from their body and drops to the bottom of the sea. When they have doubts, the younger mermaids go to this place – “the archives” – and read these armilages to gain inspiration and find solutions for their problems. And, in this way, the knowledge of those who came before is passed on to those who come after, enabling this curious civilisation to advance.
At this workshop, we will learn not only how to read and interpret the armilages of the mermaids, but also how to build up our own organic diary. And when it comes to your own life, what would be drawn upon your armilage?
