Fábrica das Artes | Educational Project
Sensitive princesses / Unlikely princesses
Come and discover what nobody knows about princesses
For children aged from 4 to 9
Once upon a time, there was a prince who wanted to marry a real princess. After travelling across all the kingdoms of the world and being unable to find any, he returned to his castle sad and disappointed. One stormy night, a young girl who had got lost in the forest knocked at the castle door and asked to be let in.
The Queen welcomed her, but, wishing to be sure that the girl was a real princess, she placed a pea beneath her mattresses. The princess had a terrible night’s sleep because of the pea, and, as she was a genuine and sensitive princess, she married the prince who had been looking for her for so long. So that everyone could follow this example, the King ordered a museum to be built and the pea was placed there, so that forever more everyone would know how to recognise a real princess.
The party begins with a small performance of the story The Princess and the Pea, by Hans Christian Andersen. In this adaptation, the prince visits various kingdoms looking for the perfect princess, but always ends up being disappointed by what he finds. One princess spends her time chewing gum, another falls asleep all over the place… Until one day a girl gets lost in the forest and arrives at the prince’s castle. Will she be the ideal princess? After the performance, a workshop will be held at which the children go to a ball filled with princes and peculiar princesses.
