Sentido Portátil (Portable Sense) is the adaptation of História Abreviada da Literatura Portátil (Brief History of the Portable Literature) by Enrique Vila-Matas, with staging by Carla Bolito.
História Abreviada da Literatura Portátil (Brief History of the Portable Literature) by Enrique Vila-Matas presents the portrait of a secret society - the shandys - also known as portable artists. To belong to this society, it is indispensable to possess a non heavy work that can fit easily in a bag.
Walter Benjamin designed a machine to weigh out books, which allows to detect with accuracy which were the unbearable literary works and, therefore, not transportable.*
Sentido Portátil (Portable Sense) introduces the different versions of the facts and events that distinguished shandys’ path, halfway between conference and performance, which can be easily carried in a boîte-en-valise.
Although not indispensable, some traces considered characteristically shandys were also recommended: broad mind, extreme sexuality, restless nomadism, strained coexistence with the stuntman, sympathy for the black, and art of stubbornness’ cult.*
